Background: For a high school art project, we took old discarded books and "revitalized" them with new art. Drawings, paintings, cutting pages, gluing stuff in, and burning stuff. Anything we wanted to do. It was a really fun project, so I kept it. Years later, I still add stuff to it.
The unicorn on the right was drawn in my sophomore year of high school using pencil and blue pastel. There's very little effort put into the anatomy. Makes me cringe when I see it. Five years later, I decided to redo this one in graphite. I'm happy with how it turned out. I don't really draw unicorns or equines, but I feel like the anatomy makes much more sense. Also, shading. I never did that in high school... It looks pretty bad because I have no scanner. Books are impossible to photograph well. :C It looks a lot better in real life! ******* I totally did this without knowing about this contest [link] , but I'll enter it, anyway. Yay for coincidences! art © me, Rita Lau |
